Role in Ecosystem:Channel catfish offer great variety to any farm pond. Its the State Fish of Iowa because of its popularity. These fish do well in Iowa farm ponds and offer a little diversity from the bluegill and bass scenario. Unfortunately channel catfish do not have success reproducing in farm ponds so we advice anglers to stock whatever they harvested periodically or just start with a small amount in your pond and add some every year.
